Quiz on Creative Video from Dallas Photographer

Last week we spoke about videos as a medium to serve multiple needs in the creative and business worlds. Video is a constantly evolving method of engaging people’s attention, entertaining, evoking thoughts and feelings, and making us, as a culture, collectively laugh. Let’s find out how much you were paying attention. Dallas photographer and creative videographer, Doug Davis, would like to challenge you to a true-or-false quiz on creative videos.

Questions

Q1. True or false: Videos at big events such as festivals, fairs, and conventions will only distract people and make them feel irritated that they can’t focus on what they want to look at.

Q2. True or false: Any amateur that wants to make a film can easily do the cinematography themselves with today’s access to inexpensive handheld cameras.

Q3. True or false: Studies show that corporate training videos should stick to the facts, as humor and entertainment will only make new employees think that the company is a joke.

Answers

A1. FALSE – What would draw your attention at an event where many people are looking to steal your focus? A compelling video full of eye-catching visuals and emotion-evoking music can easily set the tone at any type of event. Whether your video needs are entertainment, or pure advertisement, there’s no doubt that reaching people through video can make or break a company. If you don’t believe us, just think of your favorite products – the ones you’ve been using your whole life. You can probably remember at least one commercial with a jingle or phrase that will likely be embedded into your head for the rest of your life.

A2. FALSE – Do you want your short film to appear amateur? Creative video is a skill that requires experience. A short film made with a shaky, choppy shooting style will detract from the meat and guts of your story. An experienced videographer will come to the table with creative ideas and the ability to steer a budding new filmmaker in the right direction in terms of distances, angles, and lighting.

A3. FALSE – Think about what makes something stick in your mind. Usually, whether it’s a song, a few lines from a television show, or any kind of memory, it’s pleasant, colorful, and not at all boring. Making employees sit through dry and dated video materials, or even worse, only printed materials, will likely mean that they retain very little information. A modern, musical, humorous, or otherwise entertaining corporate video will make people excited, proud, and ready to work for you.
