Do You Play With Your Food?

foodIf not, you don’t know what you’re missing! Really! How many people get to play with their food without their moms yelling at them? Although we don’t know if Doug was allowed to play with his food as a child, we do know he certainly enjoys playing with it as an adult! Doug Davis, professional Dallas photographer, loves his job. For the past 20 years and more Doug has been producing product, lifestyle, food, and creative design photography and videography at D-Squared Studios in downtown Dallas. This month he and his team produced a creative design using food for a Pollo Tropical Food Sculpture campaign. Do you play with your food? Doug does, and what fun!

Pollo Tropical

Pollo Tropical is a local restaurant that originated in Miami, Florida in 1988. Offering a one-of-a-kind experience with their Caribbean inspired atmosphere and tropical food menu, their goal is to “Cure Taste Bud Boredom.” How do they attain that goal? by bring a little bit of the Caribbean into your life by providing healthy, fresh food with exciting tropical flavors in a laid-back, fun environment. The food sculpture and photo shoot by D-Squared Studios nailed their philosophy, or maybe we should say “glued” their philosophy down.

The Food Sculpture

The sculpture created for the photo shoot was made with black beans, rice, and chicken. A bountiful amount of black beans was used. Each one painstakingly glued down one-by-one to create the black pirates flag. White rice was used to create the skull, and chicken skewers were used to represent the crossed swords. The chicken was painted with oil to keep it looking fresh. That is a trade secret when working with food. Meats are oiled, and fruits and vegetables are often spritzed with water.
