Elements Of Lifestyle Photography

l-s-photographyLifestyle is a new and growing style of photography. The goal of lifestyle photography is to capture the day-to-day, commonplace elements of everyday life, but in a memorable, idealized sort of way. It takes creativity to bring ordinary moments to life and depicts them as if in a movie, so to speak. Lifestyle photographs are used for product photography, fashion photography, food photography, advertising and editorial photography and to supplement print or web articles.

It’s Called Lifestyle Because It Captures Your Lifestyle

Lifestyle photography is a style of photography that captures people in everyday, real-life moments and situations, but in an artistic manner. A good lifestyle photographer can produce amazing results that bring out the personality and style of the subject, subjects, a couple, or a family.

Unless the photographs reflect an aspect or aspects of your everyday life, such as reading your child a book at night, or enjoying your coffee by the ocean each morning, etc., it really isn’t lifestyle photography.

The Elements

The “elements” of lifestyle photography are the “elements” of the subjects, couple, or family’s life. Therefore, it is important to get to know the clients and find out as much about them as you can so you can truly capture their personality, or the dynamics of the relationship, in a photograph. For instance, do they like baking? Painting? Playing with their children in the park. Do they have a movie night, or a game night? If it is a couple, are they newly in love, newlyweds, or have they been together for 50 years? It all makes a difference. Delve deep. The more you get to know about your subjects, the more special the photos will be.
