Shooting Professional Pictures

angleProfessional photography can be fun and challenging. Although anyone can point a camera and shoot, to take a captivating picture there are definitely personality traits a photographer needs, and professional tricks to master.  You may be wondering what those personality traits are. Patience, creativity, and the ability to think outside the box are a few, but today let’s talk about some tricks and tips to shooting professional pictures.

Some Professional Tricks

Unexpected Angles: Using unexpected angles can captivate an audience when it comes to photography. Shooting from above, below, or at an odd tilt can make a boring picture into a unique photograph.

Draw the Eye: Draw your audience in by drawing their eyes across the photograph from one edge of the photo to the opposite edge. Again, this can be accomplished by shooting from above, below, or at an unexpected angle.

Up Close and Personal: Getting up close and personal can reveal details that make a picture special. Filling the frame with your subject brings those details to life.

Background:  The background frames the rest of the picture and can make or break a photograph. If it is too distracting the audience can’t focus on what’s important.  However, the proper background can make the photograph pop. Some professional photographers spend more time considering the background than the main subject and it shows. Photos with interesting backgrounds give context, tell a story, and draw you into the picture encouraging you to experience it on several different levels.

Minimalism: On the other hand, minimalist photography, characterized by simplicity and sparseness, does not need to be boring. It can also tell a story and make a poignant point.  Minimalist photography often makes the most of color and texture.

Color and Texture:  Understanding which colors complement each other and which colors contrast can help make for striking images.  The same applies to textures. Color and texture are very important features when it comes to minimalist photography.
