Simple Tips For Taking Better Pictures

rocky coastAre you new to photography? Are you wondering if photographing good pictures, although an art, really needs to be all technical and difficult? There are technical things that you need to know for sure, such as how to use a camera, and things such as lighting, shutter speed, aperture, focus, and framing, but there are some very simple tips for taking better pictures and we are going to share some of those with you today.

Instant Improvement

Believe it or not, you can instantly improve your photography skills using a few simple tips. Try them out. We think you will be pleased.

Get Low:  Sometimes a beautiful scenic picture cannot be captured and appreciated because they all begin to seem the same. That’s because we shoot them all the same: while we are in a standing position shooting straight on. Hence, you may have noticed that a beautiful view doesn’t always make a beautiful picture.  If you want to make the most of captivating scenery get low to the ground and capture rocks, plants, beach, or some other ground formation. It will make it seem as if you can walk right into that scene. When shooting, focus on the foreground, or the bottom third, of the picture and the rest will fall into place.

Shoot Off-Center: Frame the picture so your subject is slightly off-center. Here are some tips:

  • Stand in front of your subject, then move just a little bit off to one side before shooting.
  • If there is a horizon-line in your picture, frame it either a bit toward the bottom of the picture, if you want to accentuate the sky; or a bit toward the top of the picture, if you want to accentuate the foreground.
  • If your subject is a person, frame them slightly to one side, as well. If you want them to appear to be looking into the picture, position them to the opposite side from where they are looking. If you want them looking out of the picture, position them on the same side as they are looking.

Fill the Frame: We may be covering this last, but it is definitely not least. Beginning photographers tend to incorporate too much background into their pictures. Try focusing up close, filling the frame with just your subject and very few background elements.
