Holiday Food Photography

foodIf you’re looking for a food photographer for the holidays, now is the time. The holidays are upon us. Radio stations are already playing Christmas songs and it is not even Thanksgiving! But that’s the way of the world, rush, rush. We are not rushing you, but we are saying that now’s the time for holiday food photography!

Food is Huge

Food is a huge part of socializing with family and friends, especially during the holidays. People, businesses, etc., provide huge buffets or formal dinners for employees, family, friends, and the less fortunate. But the old adage “You eat with your eyes first” is true. If the food does not look appetizing, no one is going to want to eat it, or in the case of restaurants and grocery stores, people are not going to want to buy it.

Why Food Photographers Are Professionals

It takes a lot to make food look good in a photograph, especially if it has already been cooked. It takes a lot to stage a plate, table, or buffet of food for a photograph. Timing is important and so are a lot of other factors including:

Color: Do you have enough color on the plate or table? Do the colors complement each other? Do they provide contrast? Are the colors dull or do they pop?

Body and texture: It matters whether the food is just big or full-bodied. It is important to capture the different textures of each food, as well.

Lighting: Your professional photographer is trained to understand lighting. Using the right lighting is of the utmost importance. Lighting can be natural or artificial, and is one of the major ways to set the mood.

Plate or table: If the food is plated or a table set, the right props are important, too. Also, making sure the main subject, the food, is what is being highlighted in the photos.

Depth and angle: The angle of a photograph can make it or break it, as well as the depth.
